Why is diesel more expensive than petrol in Romania?
Diesel requires more complex refining, and demand is very high (commercial transport, agriculture). Additionally, environmental standards (Euro 6/7) increase production costs for low-sulphur diesel.
What is premium diesel and is the price difference worth it?
Premium diesel contains additives for injector cleaning, higher cetane number (faster ignition) and anti-corrosion protection. It is worth it for new/high-performance vehicles and in the long term prevents costly repairs.
How does winter affect the price and quality of diesel?
In winter, winter diesel (with anti-gel additives) is sold, slightly more expensive. Summer diesel can freeze below -5C. From November 15, petrol stations are required to sell winter diesel (resistant to -15C/-20C).
