About Baht thailandez (THB)

The Thai baht (THB) is the currency of Thailand. All banknotes feature the reigning monarch — the current series depicts King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X). Thailand has a lèse-majesté law, so banknotes (bearing the king's image) must be treated with respect — stepping on a banknote is considered an offense. The BOT targets inflation of 1–3%, and the baht is one of the most traded currencies in Southeast Asia.

Import/Export rules THB — Romania and EU

Import (entry into Romania)

Thailand requires declaration of foreign currency exceeding the equivalent of 20,000 USD and limits the export of baht (usually 50,000 THB). Thailand is outside the EU.

Export (exit from Romania)

Export of baht is limited (usually 50,000 THB, more to neighboring countries). At EU external borders, declaration of the equivalent of 10,000 EUR applies.

EU EU rules

Thailand is a third territory — mandatory declaration at EU external borders (equivalent of 10,000 EUR).

General EU rule: Any person entering or leaving the EU with cash amounts of 10,000 EUR or equivalent must declare them at customs (EU Regulation 2018/1672). Non-declaration can lead to confiscation of the amount and fines.
