About Dolar canadian (CAD)

The Canadian dollar (CAD), informally called the 'loonie' after the bird on the $1 coin, is the currency of Canada. All banknotes in circulation have been made of polymer since 2013, making them among the most secure in the world. CAD is a commodity currency, correlated with oil prices, as Canada is a major energy exporter. It ranks among the most traded currencies (6th-7th place according to BIS), and the exchange rate is freely floating.

Import/Export rules CAD — Romania and EU

Import (entry into Romania)

Canada does not limit the amount imported, but amounts over 10,000 CAD equivalent must be declared to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Canada is outside the EU.

Export (exit from Romania)

When leaving Canada, the same declaration threshold of 10,000 CAD equivalent applies. At EU external borders, a declaration of 10,000 EUR equivalent is required.

EU EU rules

Canada is a third territory — mandatory declaration at EU external borders (10,000 EUR equivalent).

General EU rule: Any person entering or leaving the EU with cash amounts of 10,000 EUR or equivalent must declare them at customs (EU Regulation 2018/1672). Non-declaration can lead to confiscation of the amount and fines.
